Bridge Lacrosse Spring Update
by posted 02/27/2018

Some Fury families have asked about the Bridge Lacrosse organization. The program is one of the beneficiaries of the GLCOF’s LAX Gives Back event in fall 2017. This growing program’s vision is giving urban Dallas youth equal access to the unique benefits of lacrosse. Below is the spring update from the Bridge Lacrosse executive director.

Good Morning, from the Bridge Family,

It's incredible how quickly challenges become opportunities, and how quickly those opportunities turn to achievements. It's something that we often stress to our student-athletes, whether it's during practice or wall ball work, or off-the-field as we help with letters of recommendations or college applications. Most recently, for us, we knew we had some new challenges we needed to face, including how to centralize and find more space for our teams, and ensuring we had the resources for new and unexpected growth.

Now, just a few months forward, we've received multiple gifts from foundations, including $20,000 from The Rees-Jones Foundation. We've found a new home, at JC Phelps Recreation Center, where we've been able to centralize and consolidate all of our nine teams. And, we grew 25% in our spring programming and added two additional teams, for a total of 170 student-athletes (our largest, ever). We also welcome you to check out our growth over the last three years, here!

At this point, you could say that we're doing pretty well and that our family continues to achieve in ways we never thought possible. But, it doesn't stop there. During this time, we were invited to participate in a new campaign by the Ford Motor Company. With our founder, Edie Lycke, and seventeen of our high school Panthers, we spent an entire day filming for a commercial that eventually aired just two weeks ago, during the Winter Olympics! This was one of the most fun projects that we've ever been a part of and we cannot thank Ford enough for the opportunity.  We hope you'll watch the full-length Bridge Lacorsse video here .

It's been an incredible few months for us and I think of just how quickly we turned those early challenges into accomplishments. With new growth and supporters around us, we know that 2018 will be filled with many new and great outcomes for our student-athletes. Not only have we expanded lacrosse opportunities for our urban student-athletes, we are also growing educational access and broadening our off-field curriculum. I want conclude with just how special everything is for our family, right now. We've sustained amazing growth, maintained high-quality programs and we continue to operate with transparency and guidance for our partners and families. I welcome you all to continue supporting our mission of broadening horizons through lacrosse and we hope to see you on a lacrosse field, soon.

On behalf of our Bridge Family, thank you!

David Higbee | Executive Director
